說到原因定位，首先來幾個表示原因的邏輯連詞或短語，當然最常見的有because, since, owing to, thanks to, in view of, given (that), lie in, root in等等。下面來看兩道真題。
真題在線1：Reporters tend to be part of a broadly defined social and cultural elite, so their work tends to reflect the conventional values of this elite. ‚The astonishing distrust of the news media isn’t rooted in inaccuracy or poor reportorial skills but in the daily clash of world views between reporters and their readers. (2001年Text 3)
61. The basic problem of journalists as pointed out by the writer lies in their ________.
[A] working attitude
[B] conventional lifestyle
[C] world outlook
[D] educational background
解析：首先題干中有表示原因的短語“lies in”，回到原文定位就可以找到這句話中的“root in”，題干問的是“作者指出記著的基本問題在于——”，原文的“reporters, news media”與題干的“journalist”相對應，原文的“The astonishing distrust”與題干中的“The basic problem”相對應。接下來，isn’t root in是謂語部分，其后的賓語是“inaccuracy or poor reportorial skills”;but連詞表轉折，連接第二個謂語，前后意思相反，因此第二個介詞in理解為“而在于”，其后的賓語“the daily clash of world views between reporters and their readers”;因此，對新聞業的不信任而在于記者和讀者之間日常的世界觀沖突。答案C就很好選了。
